A win for Westfield families
On September 23, 2026, WWS published a shared custody exception to its one stop rule. Families asked, the district listened, and kids will ride the bus from both of their homes again. Thank you to every family that stood up.
The exception and its request form are live now. Three steps:
The form is easy to miss on the district site. It lives at wws.k12.in.us under Departments, Transportation, About: scroll to Important Information, expand the "Bus Stops for 2026-2027" tab, and it is the "HERE" link at the end of the last paragraph. If the button above ever stops working, that is where to find it.
The exception covers court ordered shared custody only. If your family lost a daycare, caregiver, or grandparent stop, you are not covered yet, and the count below remains open for you.
To the families who registered, to the parents who stood at the podium on September 8, to the grandparents and caregivers who juggled pickups while this got sorted, and to every neighbor who passed the link along: this happened because you showed up. Nobody yelled, nobody made it personal, and it worked.
And credit where it is due. The administration engaged, acknowledged the rollout could have been communicated better, and then moved from a commitment to a published fix in under two weeks. If the new process helps your family, tell them so. A note to board@wws.k12.in.us, or two minutes of thanks at a board meeting (second Tuesday of each month, 6:30 p.m., WWS Administration Center, 19500 Tomlinson Road), is the best way to make sure a good decision sticks.
In August, the district moved every student to a single bus stop, and families with two homes lost the bus on roughly half of school days. Families raised it, this page gathered the people it affected, and on September 23 the district published new Student Transportation Guidelines:
Each student is assigned one bus stop only. The same assigned bus stop must be used for both morning (AM) and afternoon (PM) transportation.
Westfield Washington Schools may provide limited transportation exceptions for students with a court-ordered shared custody arrangement that requires transportation to or from two residences.
Both quotes are from the district's transportation page. The exception requires both residences inside the same school attendance area and a consistent, predictable daily custody schedule provided with the request.
The new exception applies to court ordered shared custody only. If your family lost a different kind of second stop, add yourselves here so your group is counted when the next conversation happens. Two minutes, nothing personal, no names published.
Add your familyRegistrations go to the Board of School Trustees. Nothing else is done with them, and no names are published anywhere.
This page is run by Westfield parents. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by Westfield Washington Schools.
Everything here comes from the district's own published pages and from correspondence with WWS administration. If you believe something on this page is wrong, say so on the form and it will be corrected.
The district engaged with these questions seriously and in good faith, and it finished the job. The disagreement was about where the decision belonged, never about anyone's intentions.
